Right now – early spring in Northern California – is the right time to plant chrysanthemums for fabulous fall flowers. Don is the chief propagation engineer at Tiny Footprint Flowers, and he’s been busy growing mums for lucky local gardeners.
This started as a small project – Don wanted to try his hand at making mum cuttings for our own tiny flower farm. He enjoyed the process, especially setting up small grow racks complete with lights, heat and insulation (not surprising since he’s a retired engineer). He made enough cuttings to fill out the rows that we harvest and sell each fall, then he started making a few extras to offer for sale.
By now he’s proven that he can make viable cuttings and local gardeners seem happy to get them - probably because these beautiful varieties are not widely known, not available in nurseries, and often can’t be shipped into California.
This spring Don is focused on slightly larger plants that he “hardens off” outdoors so that you can plant them directly into your own garden. We still call them “cuttings” but they’re actually beyond that stage, which is a great thing for the gardener. Head over to our website store to order yours – when autumn rolls around you’ll be happy you did.

Note - If you're a more experienced grower and want the earlier cutting stage for a lower price point, feel free to contact us.
